How to Keep White Appliances from Yellowing

Even though people know how white appliances are easily dirtied and may turn a darker color, most homeowners still buy them because it’s hard to resist its nice and modern look that complements any room. If you can’t stop yourself from getting appliances in white but is worried that it will be hard to clean, do not worry as there are some ways to keep them in their original color.

For most of these procedures, you will only need some ingredients that can be easily and readily found in your home, such as vinegar and baking soda. These miracle workers will help you in the long run on your quest in keeping your appliances look pristine.

Miracle Worker # 1: Get your baking soda

Baking soda is one of the best ingredients in baking and, wait for it, cleaning. Because it is mild in property and does not harm most surfaces, it can be used to clean appliances and wipe away dirt and grime. Baking soda is also used by homeowners to keep their white appliances from yellowing.  

This method is best for: 

Stoves and refrigerators

For this procedure you will need:

Baking soda (any brand will work)

Water

Rug or cloth

Nylon scrubbing pad or synthetic sponge

  1. Wipe away the dust from your appliance using a rug. 
  2. Mix your baking soda and water to make a paste.
  3. Use a nylon scrubbing pad or synthetic sponge and work your way through the surface of your appliance by gently scrubbing them. For places that are small and hard to reach, you can get your old toothbrush for easier access.
  4. You may leave the material for a couple of minutes before rinsing or wiping it with a damp rug or cloth.

Vinegar is a natural disinfectant that is now widely used by many homeowners and cleaners to effectively get rid of germs and keep appliances from turning a yellowish color.

For this procedure you will need:

Vinegar (any brand will work)

Water

Dish soap

Container

Wiping cloth

 

  1. Wipe away the dust from your appliance using a rug. 
  2. Mix equal parts of your vinegar and water into a container. 
  3. For small appliances that can be submerged, place them into the container that has your vinegar mixture.
  4. For appliances that cannot be submerged, you can pour your vinegar mixture or use a cloth that is damp with your solution to wipe it around its surface.
  5. You may leave the material for a couple of minutes before rinsing or wiping it with a damp rug or cloth.
  6. Wipe your appliance with a dry cloth to prevent rusting. If you cannot stand the smell of vinegar, you can wipe your appliance with dish soap and water to remove the odor, then wipe it with a dry cloth.

Water

Safety gear like gloves and mask

Cleaning spray

  2. Wear your protective mask and gloves before handling bleach to avoid inhaling it or having some contact on your skin.
  3. Mix equal parts of bleach and water and place it into your spray container. Do the same if you are using a multi-purpose cleaner instead of bleach.
  4. Spray your concocted solution on the surface of your appliance. 
  5. Use your cloth or sponge to wipe or scrub the surface of your appliance. Focus on the parts that are darker in color than the other areas.
  6. You may leave the material for a couple of minutes before rinsing or wiping it with a damp rug or cloth.
